“Questioning Root End Resection During Apicoectomy”
Occasionally we have cases with heavy periradicular infection that have been well-cleaned from an orthograde approach, maintained with long term intracanal medicament and yet the periradicular radiolucency or sinus tract persist unchanged. Typically clinicians progress to an apicoectomy (involving root end resection and retrofilling) after varying degrees of patience. In such specific situations, we question whether root end resection is always necessary.
Learning Objectives:
- To review possible etiologies and treatment options for recalcitrant cases.
- To consider alternatives to root end resection in limited case types.
