In other areas, including dentistry, evidence-based approaches follow three principles: systematic summaries of the best evidence are required to deliver optimal care; some evidence is more credible then other evidence; and patient values and preferences are crucial to decision-making. Clinicians often rely on clinical practice guidelines that can be trustworthy or untrustworthy – evidence-based guidelines will meet standards of trustworthiness.

About the presenter:
 
Dr. Gordon Guyatt is a distinguished professor at McMaster University. He coined the term evidence-based medicine in 1990 and since then has advocated for evidence-based approaches to medical decision-making. He has published over 1,000 papers in peer-reviewed journals cited over 110,000 times.
