“Update on Bisphosphonates and their Impact in Dentistry"
Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is an infrequent but serious side effect of bone anti-resorptive agents used in treating osteoporosis. This confounding adverse effect of bisphosphonates and related medications tempers some dental treatments in individuals prescribed with these medications. This lecture is presented as an update on current literature and knowledge pertaining to this issue.

Types of anti-resorptive medications responsible for producing MRONJ. Dental treatment cautions and protocols for patients on these drugs.
What to do when your patient sustains a MRONJ episode.

Attendees will learn:

  1. What is the mechanism that causes MRONJ
  2. What can dentists do to prevent MRONJ when treating patients on anti-resorptive meds
  3. What medications are known risks for MRONJ
